At Coffee Gems, our passion for exploration leads us to seek out exceptional coffees from unique origins. This journey brings us to the heart of Chontali, a district within the Cajamarca region of Peru, renowned for its lush landscapes and dedicated coffee farmers.
This particular lot, a naturally processed gem, hails from the Perfiles co-operative, a collective of 219 farmers across the districts of Chontalí, Pomahuaca, Sallique, and Jaen. Formed in 2019, this co-operative embodies the collaborative spirit of the region, with farmers working together to produce high-quality coffee that showcases the distinct characteristics of their terroir.
Chontali, one of the twelve districts of the Jaén province in Cajamarca, is nestled within the upper basin of the Huayllabamba river. This fertile region, blessed with a warm climate and abundant rainfall, provides the ideal environment for coffee cultivation. Beyond its agricultural significance, Chontali is also a treasure trove of biodiversity, home to leafy forests and a fascinating array of orchids, many of which remain unstudied.
This naturally processed coffee reflects the dedication of the Perfiles co-operative to traditional methods. Ripe cherries are carefully sun-dried on raised beds and cement patios, allowing the coffee's natural sweetness and unique flavour profile to develop fully.
