Monte Alban is the 1000-year-old Zapotec ruin that can be seen from the coffee farms that are hidden in the mountains surrounding the site. Monte Alban is very close to the city of Oaxaca, a culinary hot spot in Mexico with a food culture that has been influenced and perfected by the long and complex history of the region.
The long and complicated history of this place and its proximity to the coffee farms in this region really does create a sense of magic, a joining of the past to the presence through culture, artifacts and delicious coffee.
This coffee produced around Monte Alban is farmed and processed is accordance to the ethos of any given producer, and although there is a lot of conventional coffee produced here, there to are pockets of organic production. These organic producers work to create a positive impact in their local environment, understanding that their work is only temporary and that the land must be protected for whatever comes next.
