San Marcos in Guatemala is one of the main coffee growing regions, but uniquely different from the rest, it is featured as the wettest and warmest region, being the washed process the norm in this area. San Marcos coffees are very well known to have high density, medium to full body and lots of chocolate and nuts flavour notes with a lingering mouthfeel to yellow fruit notes.
So our Guatemala seasonal coffee, La Leona, highlights the richness and personality of this region. As the most of washed coffees scoring 85 or higher, you can discover clean notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut and dried peach and a medium body with a good acidity balance (you can expect notes of tangelo or green apple by brewing it in Chemex or V60) which make it easy to drink in espresso, not to mention how palatable it is to brew this coffee in any pour over way.
The smallest producers in this region are associated to cooperatives, as these have their own wet mill, so producers just take their cherries there. La Leona is the collective name of about 20 smallholder producers in this region, very well known for their commitment to improving their understanding of how their plantation process affects the coffee. They have worked hard over the years to strengthen their infrastructure and quality of their coffee, which we are sure you will appreciate so much.
