Understanding specialty coffee

The SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) is the global body that sets the standards for specialty coffee. Their scoring system, based on a 100-point scale, evaluates coffees based on various factors like aroma, flavour, acidity, body, aftertaste, sweetness and balance. Coffees scoring 80+ are considered specialty grade, with those scoring 86+ representing the top tier of quality and complexity.

    Natural

    Dried with the fruit intact, natural processing enhances sweetness, body, and fruity flavours, creating a rich and expressive cup.

    Washed

    Fully cleaned before drying, washed coffees highlight clarity and acidity, bringing out bright, crisp flavours with a clean finish.

    Filter

    Clean, complex, and vibrant, our filter coffees highlight origin characteristics with clarity—perfect for pour-over, batch brew, and other gentle extraction methods.

    Cafetiere

    Bold and full-bodied, our cafetière coffees are carefully selected for immersion brewing, offering deep flavours and a smooth, textured mouthfeel.

    Espresso

    Crafted for balance, body, and rich crema, our espresso coffees deliver intense flavours, whether enjoyed as a shot or with milk.

    Stove Top

    Selected for depth and intensity, our stovetop coffees produce a bold, full-bodied brew with rich flavours and a smooth finish.

    AeroPress

    Versatile and full of character, our AeroPress coffees are chosen for their clarity, sweetness and balance, perfect for brewing a rich smooth cup however you like it.

    Decaf

    Our decaf is naturally processed using the sugarcane method, preserving rich, full flavours. Smooth and satisfying, it tastes just like its caffeinated counterpart.

    Blend

    Blends are crafted by combining select coffees to create balanced, complex flavours. Designed for consistency and versatility, they offer a well-rounded cup suited for any brewing method.

    Competition Coffee

    90 plus scoring competition coffees from Café Granja La Esperanza, one of the world’s most renowned farms. These rare lots rival and even surpass Cup of Excellence winners, showcasing the highest level of quality and craftsmanship.
