Weekly summer drink: Iced latte
How to make a refreshing iced latte at home
There’s nothing quite like a creamy, cool iced latte on a warm day, and it’s surprisingly easy to master at home. The secret to a perfect iced latte is starting with a great coffee base, and don’t worry if you don’t have an espresso machine, we have some fantastic alternatives for you at the end of this guide!
What you'll need:
- A double shot of your favourite Coffee Gems espresso
- A tall glass
- Plenty of ice
- Around 150-180ml of cold milk of your choice (dairy, oat, almond, etc.)
Step 1: prepare your glass
Fill your tall glass to nearly the top with ice. This ensures your entire drink will be perfectly chilled right from the start.
Step 2: add your milk
Pour your cold milk over the ice until the glass is about three-quarters (3/4) full. The ice will take up space, leaving the perfect amount of room for your espresso shot.
Step 3: brew and pour your espresso
Pull a fresh, beautiful double shot of espresso. To get that lovely layered effect, slowly pour the hot espresso directly over the iced milk.
Step 4: stir and enjoy!
Give your drink a gentle stir to combine the rich espresso with the creamy milk, and enjoy your perfectly crafted homemade iced latte. It’s that simple!
Don't have an espresso machine? No problem!
You can still make a delicious iced latte without an espresso machine. The key is to create a small amount of strong, concentrated coffee.
A concentrated shot from an AeroPress is a fantastic substitute. Alternatively, you can use a classic stovetop Bialetti Moka Pot. Since a Bialetti brew is larger than an espresso shot, we recommend filling your glass with ice, then adding about 150ml of milk and 60-80ml of the freshly brewed Bialetti coffee. This will give you a delicious, well-balanced latte that isn't too diluted.
