From Planadas, Tolima, one of Colombia's most celebrated coffee growing regions, Oso Perezoso is proof that decaf can hold its own against any specialty coffee. Smallholder farms produce specialty coffee known for organic practices and certifications like Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance. The region’s coffee thrives alongside crops like rice and bananas, with selective harvesting and attentive processing enhancing quality. Investments in education and sustainability have strengthened its reputation, making Tolima a rising star in Colombian coffee production.

Sugar Cane Process

Our decaf stands out not just for its quality but also for the way it’s made. Selected for their exceptional flavour, the beans undergo a natural decaffeination process using ethyl acetate (EA), a compound derived from sugarcane.

The process begins by soaking the green coffee in an EA solution, which binds to the caffeine and removes it while preserving the coffee’s natural flavours. The beans are then steamed at low pressure to eliminate any remaining traces of EA. The result? A coffee that retains its full character—just without the caffeine.
