What is score?

  • The SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) is the global body that sets the standards for specialty coffee. Their scoring system, based on a 100-point scale, evaluates coffees based on various factors like aroma, flavour, acidity, body, aftertaste, sweetness and balance. Coffees scoring 80+ are considered specialty grade, with those scoring 86+ representing the top tier of quality and complexity.

What is single origin?

  • Single origin means the coffee comes from one specific region, farm, or cooperative, rather than a blend from multiple places. This allows you to experience the unique characteristics of that area’s climate, soil, and processing methods.

What are tasting notes?

  • Tasting notes describe the natural flavours found in the coffee, such as chocolate, citrus, or floral tones. These are not added flavours but arise from the bean’s variety, growing conditions, and roasting process.

What is the processing method?

  • This refers to how coffee beans are removed from the cherry after harvesting, which influences their final taste.
  • Free UK Royal Mail tracked 48 delivery on all orders over £25.
  • For orders under £25 delivery is charged at £2.95.
  • Coffees roasted to order. One business day before dispatch.
  • Worldwide delivery available, calculated at checkout.

Maximino Gutierrez

Maximino Gutierrez is a master coffee producer whose dedication to his craft is evident in every single harvest. His beautifully situated farm, Finca Las Florestales, takes its name from the bright array of exotic flowers that adorn his front porch. Working closely alongside his brother who manages the neighbouring estate, Maximino shares resources, knowledge, and expertise to continuously elevate the standard of his crops. This collaborative spirit and his meticulous and highly involved approach result in consistently spectacular coffees that are a genuine joy to drink.

Finca Florestales

Finca Las Florestales is a beautiful and remote estate named after the vibrant collection of exotic flowers that decorate the main house. Tucked away in a misty river valley, the farm boasts rich soil and the perfect climate for coffee plants to thrive. It sits right next door to Finca Monteverde, the estate managed by Maximino's brother. This close proximity allows the two farms to share vital resources and processing knowledge, creating a truly ideal environment for cultivating exceptional coffee.

Washed Processing

This beautiful coffee is fully washed and then traditionally fermented for 20 hours to bring out its absolute best flavours. After that, the beans are carefully dried using a Casa Helda. If you are wondering what that is, it is a brilliant traditional Colombian drying bed with a retractable roof, often built right on top of the farmer house! This clever design lets the beans soak up the sunshine while keeping them perfectly protected from any sudden rain or harsh weather.
