What is score?

  • The SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) is the global body that sets the standards for specialty coffee. Their scoring system, based on a 100-point scale, evaluates coffees based on various factors like aroma, flavour, acidity, body, aftertaste, sweetness and balance. Coffees scoring 80+ are considered specialty grade, with those scoring 86+ representing the top tier of quality and complexity.

What is single origin?

  • Single origin means the coffee comes from one specific region, farm, or cooperative, rather than a blend from multiple places. This allows you to experience the unique characteristics of that area’s climate, soil, and processing methods.

What are tasting notes?

  • Tasting notes describe the natural flavours found in the coffee, such as chocolate, citrus, or floral tones. These are not added flavours but arise from the bean’s variety, growing conditions, and roasting process.

What is the processing method?

  • This refers to how coffee beans are removed from the cherry after harvesting, which influences their final taste.
  • Free UK Royal Mail tracked 48 delivery on all orders over £25.
  • For orders under £25 delivery is charged at £2.95.

Jose Hernan Quintero

José Hernán Quintero has been surrounded by coffee his entire life, inheriting a passion from his coffee-producing parents. His dream of continuing their legacy was put to the test when his community was forced to flee due to conflict in the region. Despite this immense challenge, his dedication prevailed.

His focus on quality was solidified after achieving high rankings in the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition in both 2006 and 2009. This motivated him to concentrate solely on specialty coffee, and today, he works alongside his wife, Nubia, and their son as a close-knit team. Nubia manages the farm's accounting and traceability, while their son oversees the crucial post-harvest processes, ensuring every lot meets their exacting standards.

Finca La Pradera

Located at a high altitude of 1,700 MASL in the municipality of Rioblanco, Tolima, Finca La Pradera is a 7-hectare farm with 3 hectares dedicated to growing exceptional coffee. The coffee plants are grown under the shade of native trees, including Nogal, Cambulo, Carbonero, and Guamo, which creates an ideal microclimate for cultivating high-quality Arabica varieties like Typica, Caturra, Bourbon, and Geisha. This careful environmental management is a key part of the Quintero family's approach to producing their award-winning coffee.

Honey Processed

This lot undergoes a meticulous Honey process, a method José Hernán has focused on perfecting over the years. After the coffee cherries are picked, they are traditionally fermented for a remarkable 72 hours. This extended fermentation is key to developing the deep, sweet, and complex fruit notes in the final cup.

Once fermentation is complete, the coffee is moved to be fully sun-dried, first on raised beds and then finished in covered, house-type patios to ensure a slow, even, and consistent drying process.
